The Other Side of the
Mirror
Long ago I started to see, feel and sometimes hear things that
no-one else seemed to. Coming home from school and finding my toys
and magazines on my bedroom floor. Even though I was sure I had put
them all away before I left. Hoovering for my mum to earn pocket
money only to find that several times the hoover would switch off by
itself. I would go and investigate to find the plug out of the
socket and switched off. These things I grew up with and yes I had
annoying brothers who would play tricks on me, but mostly things
would happen when they weren’t around.
My mum always played down my questions about ‘ghosts’ when I was
young, telling me it was my imagination. I gave up trying to tell
her what I witnessed in the house, I wasn’t believed, but I knew it
was real, the slam of a door behind me, lampshades flickering and my
pet dog never wanting to go into my room.
My Nan used to say to me
“There are greater things in heaven than on earth” In my late teens
I finally knew what she meant.
So here are some of my thoughts on the paranormal and what it means
to me...
I don’t believe that
everything can be explained and likewise I don’t believe that
everything can’t. I do however; believe everything has energy, from
an old woolly jumper stuffed at the bottom of your wardrobe (the one
you can’t bear to throw out) right up to something like a car.
Even sceptics will relate to
the feeling you get when something just ‘seems’ right. If you have
ever house-hunted and you may have looked at several, but then you
walk into one and you just know it’s the one, because it ‘feels’
right. I think that feeling is energy, energy from the house, or
the previous owners. It can’t’ be explained but at the same time you
know it’s real.
Have you ever heard a young
child say something years ahead of their age? And think they are an
old soul? I firmly believe in reincarnation and that the life we
live here and now is only a small part our journey. I think we
live our life here, we learn and when we cross over we have the
choice to come back and learn some more. Ever had that feeling that
you have met someone before? Maybe you did, in another part of your
journey…
Now I want to share with you over the coming months my experiences
with the paranormal and spirit world.
This story I’m going to tell
you happened about 10 years ago.
The house I was living in was a new build, in fact I had watched it
being built and when we moved in it was like a breath of fresh air.
We had moved from a pre 2nd world war home a few miles
away and living in our brand new ‘history’ free house was welcome.
This was because we had lived for 3 years in a house that was ripe
with activity that seemed to focus its attention on my eldest child,
which I will go into more detail on in future reports. We had been
living in our new home for about 6 months and all was well. No
lights turned on by themselves, no doors slammed shut randomly,
personal belongings had stopped disappearing and there was a feeling
of calm. Even the children had stopped waking up in the middle of
the night. Until one rainy day in February.
It was nearing 3pm and time to do the school run, I had been
shopping with a neighbour and we decided to drop the food off at our
houses before going onto the school to pick up the children. I
parked up on my driveway and told my neighbour I would let my dogs
out and then we would drive to the school. She went with her
shopping to her home some 10 doors away and I opened my front door
and put my handbag and car keys on the stairs that were straight in
front of me. To my left through a door was my dining room and
kitchen, where my dogs were. I opened the door and greeted my dogs;
I went over the back door and let my dogs out into the garden. I
started to put some frozen food items in the freezer when I heard
the dining room door slam shut, not surprising as I had left the
back door open for the dogs to wander back in. I called the dogs
back in and locked the back door; I turned to the dining room door
and pulled the handle down to open it. It wouldn’t move, it was
like someone was on the other side of the door and holding the
handle preventing me from pulling it down. I tried again with all
my strength but it was no use I couldn’t move it. I had left my keys
on the stairs but I had a spare set in the kitchen so I got them and
unlocked the backdoor once again, I went outside and through the
side gate to get to my front door.
When I got to the front door it was closed as I had left it, so my
theory that my neighbour was messing around and holding the dining
room door from the other side went out the window. I stalled I
didn’t know what to do; I didn’t want to open the front door in case
someone was in the house. I called my neighbour on my mobile and
told her to come back now! She was there in a minute and I quickly
explained what had happened. We opened the front door and my bag and
keys were still there on the stairs but when we looked towards the
dining room door we saw a dining chair had been put underneath the
handle, therefore preventing me from being able to move it on the
other side. I froze, because that chair must have been moved from
the dining room while I was in there, but I would have surely
noticed someone in the room with me! It was only an eight foot by 12
foot room with an archway to the kitchen. There is no possible way
I would not have noticed someone in that room with me, and the dogs
would have definitely known. I was so scared and more so because my
husband was working away at the time, I needed to know that there
was no-body in that house. We searched every room together and
nothing. It didn’t make sense. Why would I possibly be locked in my
own dining room?
The whole fiasco had caused us to be very late in picking up the
children and it would be busy with school traffic and any parking
spaces would be taken now, so we decided even though it was raining
it would be quicker if we left the car and did the short cut through
the field on foot.
We picked up the children and walked back the road way that we would
have driven had we taken the car. It was on this walk back we came
across an awful crash involving 7 or more cars, on the direct route
we would have taken. I was obvious that it had only happened
minutes before and I shuddered at the thought I could have been
involved.
It occurred to me that what
had happened at home, delaying me, could have saved me from the
crash.
Once the children were
inside the boys went upstairs to play and my daughter sat at the
dining table doing her homework while I was in the kitchen preparing
dinner.
Suddenly my daughter asked,
“Where are the boys?”
I told her they were
upstairs playing.
“That’s strange then” she
said,
“Didn’t you hear it?”
“What?”I asked,
“Some one just whispered
“SSHHH, HE’S COMING””
I hadn’t heard anything, but
I had every hair on my body stand up on end, it felt like I was
being watched, it felt like the old house again.
The rest of the evening passed without anything happening and I put
the boys to bed and picked up their dirty washing of their bedroom
floor. I emptied their pockets and in my youngest jeans was a toy
figure, it was very old and certainly not one of their toys. It was
a small figure of ‘doogle the dog’ from the late 70’s magic
roundabout cartoon. I asked my son where he had got if from.
“I got it from God mummy”
“What do you mean?” I asked,
“God gave it to me, I see
him in the mirror”
He pointed to his mirror on
the wall.
I told him not to be silly
and said look it’s only me and you in the mirror
“No mummy!” he said,
“On the other side of the
mirror”
Well to bring a close to
this section, I went to my son’s nursery the next morning and asked
if the figure was theirs to which they said they had never seen it
before. I had an uneasy feeling that whatever had been in the old
house had somehow found us again.
I called a medium friend of mine for advice and he told me that it
wasn’t unheard of spirits ‘giving’ gifts in order for their energies
to be brought back into the home.
As it transpired that wasn’t to be the last ‘gift’ that started
appearing over the house over the following weeks, and it certainly
wasn’t the end of any paranormal activity we were going to
experience. There was so much more to come…
